The 1991 Italian motorbike Grand Prix was the fifth round of the 1991 MotoGP. Starting with this season's edition, the GP held on Italian soil changed its official name from 'Gran Premio delle Nazioni' to 'Gran Premio d'Italia'.
Mick Doohan wins the 500 class race, for the Australian rider of the Rothmans Honda team it is the second victory of the season (also the second consecutive victory, as he had also won the previous Spanish GP). Behind Doohan came second the American John Kocinski of the Marlboro Team Roberts, while in third place came Eddie Lawson on a Cagiva. It was since the 1988 Belgian GP that Cagiva had not achieved a podium finish, when Randy Mamola finished that race in third place.
