Behind them, Brundle passed Schumacher for third place, who became second when Patrese had a gearbox failure on lap 44. However, Brundle only held on for two more laps before retiring with transmission problems. Gerhard Berger won over Schumacher, Alesi, Wendlinger, de Cesaris and Érik Comas.
