1976 Formula 1 World Championship: Jarama Permanent Circuit

The race saw the application of the new technical regulations, introduced for safety reasons. The big news, however, was the debut of the Tyrrell P34, driven by Patrick Depailler alone, the first Formula 1 car with six wheels, four in front, set in line, and two behind.

James Hunt won with relative ease, while Lauda had to suffer a lot to reach the finish line due to his less than optimal physical condition. James Hunt was initially disqualified because on his McLaren the size taken on the rear tyres was 18 mm larger than allowed by the regulations. On 5 July the FIA Appeals Tribunal decided to reinstate Hunt.
